Cruise Control Issue

Hi, I have a 2020 GT Line Puretech automatic and the cruise control has recently acquired a strange fault.

It usually refuses to work when I first set off on a journey. However if I stop a couple of miles in then restart the engine it comes on and remains working for the rest of the trip (even if I interrupt it for shopping etc).

Any advice on this frustrating quirk gratefully accepted (and apologies if this has already been covered but the forum search engine is not working for me).

Check for codes using an OBDII dongle and FAP Lite, or do it properly and get Diagbox and the Lexia3. I very occasionally see this on my 508 RXH (2018 BlueHDI 2.0l version), where the cruise control and limiter are disabled and will start working when I stop then start the car up again. In my case, it was always accompanied by a U1318 BSI comms error code. I did have a half dead battery, so I was getting a lot more issues: U1218, P1AA2 and occasional codes pointing at reverse alternator issues and such. Once the old battery was replaced with a nice new one, all the issues went away, but I did see the cruise control + limiter issue (with U1318 code) just a couple of times in the week or so after I had the battery replaced. I don't think the dealer did a proper BSI reset after replacing the battery, so I was going to do that if the issue kept occurring, but it's been a few weeks since I last had it, so fingers crossed.

That's my story anyway, hope you find something useful in there! But seriously, do get yourself a code reader - the mods here warn against OBD clones and free apps like FAP Lite, but it's better than nothing and was a huge help to me. I do plan to get the proper Diagbox and Lexia3 though. I used to have great diagnostics tools for Mazda/Ford/Jaguar that allowed me to do all sorts of procedures like DPF regen, fuel injector calibration and timing chain "stretch" tests, such that I never once needed to go near a main stealer, sorry, I mean dealer. I hope that Diagbox would provide a similar level of control. FAP (even the full version) is quite good, but rather limited and people say it can sometimes give misleading info (that was not my experience though).

Good luck!
